Top dressing and aeration are a classic combination. Here's why doing them together beats doing either one alone.
Top dressing means spreading a thin, even layer of a soil and compost blend across your lawn. On its own it helps level low spots and improve the surface. Done right after aeration, it does even more.
The channels do the work
When we core-aerate, we pull thousands of small plugs and leave open channels in the soil. Apply top dressing right after, and the blend works down into those channels instead of just sitting on top—improving the soil where roots actually grow.
What top dressing helps with
